Ninety-two percent of Americans believe in God. Why? Because the evidences of a Creator God are immediately available to anyone with an open mind willing to consider them.
Evidence 1: The intricacy of creation. Have you noticed that it appears that nearly everything on earth has a purpose? How did that happen? Logic tells the honest mind that “things” display intention, they have a reason to exist or they would not be here. These “things” also require a designer who had incredible intellect and calculated will.
The earth itself is the most obvious witness of a creator God. If the earth were any closer to the sun, the earth would burn up. If it were any farther away from the sun, it would freeze. The earth’s axis gives us seasons and if there was no tilt, the equator would burn up from direct sunlight and radiation and turn it to an arid desert.
If the earth were to move a tiny 2% closer to the sun we would all be toast. If it was only 2% farther away, we would freeze. NASA tells us that we are “just the right distance from the sun.”
Evidence 2: The harmony of creation. One of the most astounding natural events is the annual migration of wildebeest in Tanzania’s Serengeti national Park and Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve. It is one of the most spectacular wildlife events on the planet. Approximately 1.5 million wildebeest, 400,000 zebra and 200,000 gazelles move together every year at the same time over the same path and have been doing so for thousands of years.
According to decades of study, their movement reveals that wildebeest have no natural leader and that herds split up, some go this way then that, and some head off in a completely different direction, but all of them always end up in relatively the same place every year. Does this happen by accident? How do they know which way to travel? Why do zebra and gazelles travel with them? Who programmed their mind for such a difficult journey? The only intelligent conclusion is that someone smarter than the most clever human computer programmer in history must be responsible.
Evidence 3: The beauty of creation. A few years ago I took my son back to Africa where he was born so he could see the beauty of Africa and meet the people we worked amongst. The moment I remember most happened late one
night in a Ba-Tonga village south of Choma, Zambia where we stayed for several nights. I stirred a bit as I heard him get out of his tent but he awoke me fully when he said, “Dad! Come and see this!” I moved quickly out of my tent. He pointed to the skies and said, “Look at all those stars!” He was stunned by the handwork of almighty God, the God who created all things great and small, near and far, alive and inert, including you, for His good purposes.
You are a witness to the intricacy, harmony and beauty of creation; do you believe in God?
